Plan for an unpredictable
night of magic, fun and comradery at the, now annual, Mile High Magicians “Open Mic Night.” Join host Chad Darnell
as he guides an un-steerable ship down uncharted waters. This is your chance to take a leap and try out a new trick, show
us a wrinkle on an old trick, wow us with a great effect, or just warm up those cold feet and take a plunge. In keeping with
the idea of fostering our art and nourishing our performers, this is your chance to perform anything for your peers and mentors.
Frankly I’m terrified, but what better audience could there be for us… than us? I tell my students that there
are three ways to watch magic.
- You can just sit back and be
amazed and experience the wonder. I’ve heard a few magicians express that as they have become more experienced this
has become an increasingly rare delight.
- You can watch analytically to discover the “how
did he do that?”
- You can know the means and methods and just admire the skill the
magician displays in the presentation and the execution.
Open Mic is a closed meeting and it’s recommend
that all attendees be over the age of 18 or have permission to hear some “blue” material. Please let Chad know
if you might perform anything “edgy or blue” so you can appear later in the evening.
What should you do for open
mic? Even though it’s open mic, to insure we don’t get backlog the night of the show, shoot Chad an email (chad@idomagic.com) to let him know you plan on performing. If at all possible, try to
keep your routines about 5 minutes long.
The Board is also introducing a teach-in at every meeting for 2010, read Dave Elstun’s
Presidential Patter for more info. Show up promptly at 7:00 and we’ll begin the meeting with a quick lesson.
The meeting will be held at our usual spot:
